Committees

2021-22 Board Committees

Board Chair is an ex-officio member of all committees established by the Board with voting privileges with the exception of the Student Expulsion Committee. 

Policy Committee

The purpose of this committee is to prepare recommendations for additions/changes/deletions of Board Policy.

Audit Committee

Purpose is to assist the Board of Trustees in ensuring the assets of Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) are preserved and resources utilized, as approved. The Audit Committee will oversee the processes for managing and reporting on financial activities and related internal controls. The Committee will recommend the appointment of the external auditor, review the audit plan, assess the effectiveness of the auditor, review the annual financial statements and audit findings, assess the effectiveness of the Division’s internal controls, and obtain reports on internal audit findings and recommendations, review the external auditor’s assessment of internal controls and obtain reports on significant findings and recommendations, assess compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and guidelines, and report findings and information to the Board.

Teacher’s Collective Agreement Negotiations Committee (Will be participating as Trustee and not in an ex-officio capacity)

Purpose of this committee it to negotiate and conclude the memoranda of agreement for recommendation to the Board.

Advocacy Committee (Board Chair serves as the Chair of the Committee)

Purpose of this committee is support the ongoing advocacy efforts of the Board. The committee will be responsible for developing an action plan to support the Board’s identified advocacy plan and to identify key messages to support the advocacy plan.

Board Caucus 

The purpose of this committee is to provide a forum for discussion, solicit and receive information from the Superintendent relevant to the development of various system activities and plans pertinent to Board operations, assign work to be undertaken and to Make recommendations for agenda items for subsequent Board meetings

Provincial Committee

Representing EIPS Board of Trustees on the following external committee/agencies/organizations

Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) Representative Committee

This committee is made up representatives from the 61 school boards for the purpose of bargaining collectively with the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) on determined central matters.
